Fantasy author heads to New Orleans for Black History Month

NEW ORLEANS — Raleigh-based fantasy fiction author Torrie Q. Jones is set to highlight three installments of her critically acclaimed Reborn the Book series at the 10th Annual Black History Month Literary Weekend, taking place Feb. 20–21 in New Orleans.
Speculative fiction readers will have the opportunity to meet Jones, a New York native, in person and get signed copies of her novels Sun and Luck, and will be able to pre-order her third book, Moon, during the annual weekend, which will return to New Orleans for the first time since 2020. Jones will be one of 14 authors featured at the Black History Month Literary Weekend, hosted by Meet the World Image Solutions. This will be her third year being featured in the event, but her first visit to New Orleans.
Jones describes her creative path as a journey “out of survival mode and into a world shaped by imagination, depth, and cultural truth.” A philosophy evident throughout her immersive urban fantasy storytelling, her work defies formulaic genre limitations, introducing dynamic Black protagonists confronting cosmic resistance and inner power alike.
“As a Black fantasy author, I want my readers to feel seen in worlds that often overlook us,” Jones said. “To bring urban speculative fiction into new light is to expand the boundaries of who fantasy is for and who it represents.
BHMLW is a weekend of music, comedy, and books, solely focused on fostering literacy while celebrating African-American authors and businesses. Since its inception in New Orleans in 2017, the event has promoted more than 100 authors, impacted thousands of students, and contributed more than $6,000 in scholarships, awards, and book donations.
